WestchesterRide (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is an independent publication about New York and New Jersey stadiums, arenas, airports and rail connections, reachable at https://westchesterride.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect about visitors, why we collect it, how it is used, who else may receive it, and the rights you have over your own data. It is written in plain language to be readable in full rather than skimmed.
By using https://westchesterride.com you agree to the practices described here. If any part of this policy is unclear or you would like to exercise any of the rights described below, please use the Contact page.
Information we collect
We collect three categories of information.
1. Information you provide directly
- Messages sent through the Contact form, including the name, email address, and message body you choose to share.
- Any other information you voluntarily include in correspondence with us.
We do not require visitors to register an account, and we do not host user comments that would require sign-in.
2. Information collected automatically
- Server logs: our hosting provider records standard request data (IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, timestamp, response code) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for a short rolling window and are not used for advertising profiling.
- Analytics: Google Analytics 4 records aggregated, pseudonymous information about visits, including page views, referring sources, device type, browser, and an approximate geographic region derived from IP. IP anonymization is enabled. We do not link analytics data to any directly identifying information.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see the dedicated Cookies section below.
3. Information shared via third parties
- When you click an external link to another site (for example a venue, airport or transit agency page), that site receives the standard HTTP referrer and may place its own cookies on your device. We do not control or have access to those cookies.
Cookies and similar technologies
WestchesterRide uses a small number of cookies:
- Essential cookies required for basic site functionality such as cache control and security checks.
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate usage. These cookies do not identify you personally.
You can refuse non-essential cookies at any time through your browser settings or a tracker-blocking extension. Disabling analytics cookies will not prevent you from reading any article.
How we use the information
- To understand which content is most useful to readers and improve future coverage.
- To respond to inquiries submitted through the Contact form.
- To detect, prevent, and respond to abuse, fraud, scraping, or attacks against the site.
- To comply with legal obligations, court orders, or lawful requests from authorities.
We do not use visitor information for personalized advertising, and we do not build behavioral profiles of individual readers.
Third-party services we use
The following service providers process visitor information on our behalf, each subject to its own privacy policy:
- Cloudflare for content delivery, performance, and protection against abusive traffic.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) for aggregated traffic measurement.
- Our hosting provider for standard web hosting.
We review the policies of these providers and select services that handle data responsibly. Their processing of any data they receive directly from you is governed by their own privacy policies, not by this one.
Data sharing and sale
We do not sell personal information, and we do not rent or trade visitor information. We may share information with the third-party services listed above strictly to operate the site, with law enforcement when legally required, and with successors in the event of a sale or transfer of the platform (in which case the successor would inherit the obligations in this policy).
Data retention
- Contact form submissions are kept for as long as needed to respond to the inquiry and to maintain a record of the correspondence, typically up to 24 months, after which they are deleted unless an ongoing matter requires longer retention.
- Server logs are retained on a short rolling window, typically 30 to 90 days, then overwritten.
- Analytics data is retained inside Google Analytics under the retention policy configured in that platform.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have one or more of the following rights with respect to your personal information.
If you are in the United States (CCPA / CPRA, for California residents)
- The right to know what personal information we collect, use, or disclose.
- The right to request deletion of personal information you have provided.
- The right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. As stated above, we do not sell personal information.
- The right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland (GDPR)
- The right of access to information we hold about you.
- The right to rectification of inaccurate information.
- The right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
- The right to restrict or object to processing.
- The right to data portability.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in your country of residence.
To exercise any of these rights, use the Contact page. We will respond within the time periods required by applicable law.
Children
WestchesterRide is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our Contact form, please notify us so that we can delete it.
International transfers
Our hosting and analytics providers are based primarily in the United States. If you visit https://westchesterride.com from outside the United States, the information described above may be transferred to and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions whose data protection laws may differ from those of your country.
Security
We use standard industry practices to protect information against unauthorized access, including HTTPS for all pages, regular software updates, and access controls on administrative tools. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is fully secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, in third-party services, or in applicable law. Material changes will be noted by updating the “Last updated” date below. Continued use of https://westchesterride.com after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
