Newark Liberty sends every hotel shuttle to the same building, then splits it into three numbered zones. Published there are 21 hotels across Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3 of the P3 Station, each with a city and a phone number, and the zone is the part a traveler needs at 5 a.m. and the part no booking confirmation carries.

Getting to that building is its own step. P3 is reached on the AirTrain, which the airport publishes as free for this trip and as running every 3 to 5 minutes, dropping to every 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Neither JFK nor LaGuardia publishes anything like this arrangement.
One pickup point, three zones, 21 hotels
The instruction on the hotels page is unusually plain: “For hotel-specific shuttles, take the AirTrain to the P3 Station, where all complimentary hotel shuttle pick ups and drop offs occur.” No terminal curb, no van to call, no wondering which door. One station, on a train timed at every 3 to 5 minutes, and then a zone.
| P3 zone | Hotels | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Zone 1 | Courtyard by Marriott Newark Airport, Courtyard by Marriott Newark Elizabeth, Embassy Suites by Hilton Newark Airport, Marriott Newark, Renaissance Newark Airport Hotel, Residence Inn Elizabeth | 6 |
| Zone 2 | Best Western, Best Western Robert Treat Hotel, Doubletree Newark, Hampton Inn and Suites Newark Airport-Elizabeth, Hampton Inn Newark Airport, Hilton Newark Airport, Ramada Limited Jersey City, Springhill Suites Newark Airport, Tryp by Wyndham | 9 |
| Zone 3 | Airport Hotel, America’s Best Value Inn, Crowne Plaza Newark Airport, Extended Stay America, Holiday Inn Express Newark Airport, Kenilworth Inn | 6 |
Zone 2 carries nine of the 21 and Zones 1 and 3 carry six each, so the busiest zone is half again as crowded as the others. A traveler who knows only the hotel name knows nothing about which of the three to stand in, and the hotel’s own confirmation email is not where that appears.
The zone matters most when the margin is thin. On a 60-minute cushion before check-in closes, standing in the wrong one costs a van cycle nobody publishes, on top of an AirTrain leg the airport does publish at 3 to 5 minutes by day and 15 minutes overnight. That is the whole reason to look the zone up before the taxi rank starts to seem reasonable.
Ten of the 21 are not in Newark
The second column is the one worth reading twice. Ten of the 21 hotels sit in Elizabeth, 8 in Newark, and one each in Jersey City, Irvington and Kenilworth. A list headed by the airport’s name is mostly a list of a different municipality.
That matters because the shuttle is the only connection Newark Liberty describes. No distance appears for any of them and no journey time either, so a hotel in Kenilworth and a hotel across the fence in Elizabeth read as equals on the page. The only signal of proximity is which zone the van uses, and the zones are not ordered by distance.
Compare that with what the same airport publishes about its own train: 3 to 5 minutes between departures, 7 to 20 minutes from the rail station to the terminals, $8.75 for the one connection that is not free. The precision stops at the property line.
Four of these hotels turn up on a second airport page as authorized parking providers: Crowne Plaza, Hilton Newark Airport, Marriott and Renaissance. They fall in three different zones, so a park-and-fly booking decides the pickup point too, which is set out in the guide to leaving a car at Newark for a week.
The one hotel that skips the AirTrain
One property is described as “Newark’s only on-airport hotel”: the Marriott Newark, at 1 Hotel Road, which the airport lists with a “complimentary shuttle service to and from all terminals” for it. That is a different promise from the rest of the list: the van meets the terminal rather than the traveler meeting the van at P3.
The same hotel also appears in Zone 1 of the P3 table, so both routes exist on the airport’s own pages. For a departure at 6 am that redundancy is the point: a hotel with a terminal shuttle does not depend on a train that thins to every 15 minutes overnight, and every other hotel on the list does.
What the trip to P3 costs in minutes
The AirTrain is free for this journey. The wording is unambiguous: the AirTrain is free “for travel between terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas (P3 Station), and rental car facilities”, with an $8.75 fee only for passengers connecting to NJ Transit or Amtrak at the Newark Airport Train Station without a rail ticket.
| Published detail | What Newark Liberty says |
|---|---|
| AirTrain frequency, daytime | Every 3 to 5 minutes |
| AirTrain, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. | Every 15 minutes, Terminals B and C only |
| Terminal A connection | Not direct: 15-minute covered walk or a 5-minute shuttle |
| Bus to the P3 hotel shuttles | Drop-offs only, 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., roughly every 5 minutes |
| Fare to P3 | Free |
| Accessibility | ADA throughout, two wheelchair spaces per train |
Read that table as a night-time plan and the arithmetic changes. A 4 a.m. connection to a hotel van is an AirTrain that comes every 15 minutes rather than every 3, from a platform that serves two terminals rather than three, and the airport says the Terminal A link is “a 15 minute walk on a covered pathway or a 5 minute shuttle ride” because “the AirTrain does not connect directly to Terminal A”.
The drop-off bus is the detail most likely to be misread. It runs to the P3 hotel shuttles between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., every 5 minutes or so, and it is published as drop-offs only, which means it carries you to your hotel van at midnight and does not bring you back at six.
What the hotel list leaves out
Every entry gives three things: hotel, location, contact number. There is no rate, no distance in miles, no journey time and, most usefully missing, no shuttle frequency or operating hours for any of the 21. The same airport times its own AirTrain to the minute, at 3 to 5 minutes by day, and leaves the last leg to a phone call.
So the useful question to ask when booking is not what a room costs but when the van runs and how often, because that answer exists only at the hotel. Ask for the first pickup of the morning and the interval, and confirm the zone, since the airport assigns it and the hotel is the one that has to meet it.
- All hotel shuttles use the P3 Station, reached free on the AirTrain, and the airport splits them into 3 zones.
- Zone 2 holds 9 of the 21 hotels; Zones 1 and 3 hold 6 each.
- 10 of the 21 are in Elizabeth and only 8 in Newark, with one each in Jersey City, Irvington and Kenilworth.
- Between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. the AirTrain runs every 15 minutes and serves Terminals B and C only.
- Terminal A is a 15-minute covered walk or a 5-minute shuttle from its AirTrain station.
- The Marriott Newark is the only on-airport hotel and publishes a shuttle to all terminals, so it needs no AirTrain leg.
Editorial note: prices, schedules, and policies on this page were checked against the official sources named in the text in September 2026. Treat every figure here as a reference point rather than a quote: operators change fares and hours without notice, and many vary by season, by event and by demand. Confirm the current price with the operator before you travel. Westchester Ride does not sell tickets or parking and does not accept payment to rank any operator.
Common questions about hotels near Newark Airport
Six answers, each taken from what Newark Liberty published in September 2026.
At the P3 Station, reached on the AirTrain. The airport states that all complimentary hotel shuttle pick ups and drop offs happen there, and it splits the stop into Zone 1, Zone 2 and Zone 3, with each hotel assigned to one.
Yes. Newark Liberty publishes the AirTrain as free between terminals, parking lots, hotel shuttle areas at P3 and the rental car facilities. The $8.75 fee applies only to passengers connecting to NJ Transit or Amtrak without a rail ticket.
The Marriott Newark, at 1 Hotel Road, which the airport calls Newark’s only on-airport hotel and lists with a complimentary shuttle to and from all terminals. It also appears in Zone 1 of the P3 table.
Every 15 minutes between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., serving Terminals B and C only, against every 3 to 5 minutes during the day. A separate shuttle covers the Terminal A transfer during those hours.
Mostly not. Of the 21 hotels the airport lists, 10 are in Elizabeth and 8 in Newark, with one each in Jersey City, Irvington and Kenilworth. No distance or journey time is published for any of them.
The airport does not say. It publishes no shuttle hours or frequency for any of the 21 hotels, only a phone number, so the first morning pickup has to be confirmed with the hotel rather than read off the airport page.
The airport tells you exactly where to stand and nothing about when the van arrives.
