JFK Airport Parking: Four Open Lots and a $20 Terminal Gap

A 24-hour stay at Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 4 Blue Lot costs $94 and the same stay at the Terminal 8 Red Lot costs $74, checked September 2026. The airline assigns the terminal. The driver picks the lot, and the gap between those two rates the airport publishes is $20 for every day the car sits there.

JFK airport parking | WestchesterRide

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey runs five parking facilities at JFK with a published price, two more that are closed, and one rule that makes the gap worth acting on. AirTrain rides between terminals are free, in the airport’s own wording, so parking at a cheaper building costs a ride and nothing else.

Stays past a week, the off-airport lots the airport authorizes and the park-and-fly hotels belong to a separate guide on JFK long-term parking, because each of them turns on a weekly multiplication. What follows stays inside the numbers on the rate table itself, a 24-hour maximum, a half-hour rate and a prebook price.

What each open lot at JFK costs for 24 hours

JFK publishes four open lots with a drive-up rate: the Long-Term Parking Lot at $55 for 24 hours, the Terminal 8 Red Lot at $74, the Terminal 5 Yellow Lot at $89 per day and the Terminal 4 Blue Lot at $94. A fifth, Federal Circle Station Lot, takes reservations only.

Those maximums span $55 to $94, so one day of parking at one airport costs $39 more depending on which building the driver stops at, on the rates the airport publishes in September 2026. None of them is a weekly price. JFK publishes no weekly rate and no ceiling on a whole stay, only a maximum for each 24 hours, which is why a long trip has to be priced by multiplication rather than read off a table.

Why the Terminal 4 Blue Lot bills $20 more than Terminal 8

The airport publishes a different half-hour scale for each terminal lot, and the gap starts there. The Terminal 8 Red Lot charges $4 per half hour while the Terminal 4 Blue Lot and the Terminal 5 Yellow Lot charge $6, with each additional half hour past a three-hour stay billed at $8 in the Red Lot and $12 in the other two.

Multiply that scale and the gap is visible long before any maximum applies. Two hours bills $16 in the Terminal 8 Red Lot and $24 in the Terminal 4 Blue Lot on the rates the airport publishes; three hours bills $24 and $36. The multiplication is ours. Nowhere does the airport set the two lots side by side, and the half-hour columns sit in separate accordions on the same page.

Prebooking narrows the gap without closing it. Its prebook column publishes as low as $80 per day at the Blue Lot against as low as $62 at the Red Lot, still $18 apart, with the booking asked at least 3 hours in advance. Two of those prices land exactly on top of a drive-up maximum, checked September 2026: the Yellow Lot’s best prebook price of $74 is the Red Lot’s walk-up day, and Federal Circle’s $55 is the Long-Term Parking Lot’s.

Nothing on the parking page explains the spread. The lots feed the same roadway network, take the same payment cards and connect to the same train, and the price of a day still moves $20 on the airline printed on the boarding pass, according to the Port Authority’s own rate tables.

Riding the AirTrain between terminals costs nothing

The airport publishes the free zone in plain terms: AirTrain rides between the terminals and Federal Circle are free, and the $8.75 per person fare applies only to trips that start or end at Jamaica or Howard Beach. Children under five ride free. That single sentence is what turns a lot at another terminal into a real option rather than a detour.

The airport already moves drivers across terminals itself. Its lot widget marks Terminal 1 Green and Terminal 7 Orange as closed and directs both to the Terminal 8 Red Lot, and the Red Lot’s own note lists it as the recommended option for anyone using Terminal 1. Terminal 7 still runs Air Canada, ANA, Aer Lingus, Condor, Frontier, Kuwait, Norse and Icelandair, so those passengers are parking two terminals from their gate by the airport’s own instruction.

Two free places to wait sit inside the same zone. Kennedy International Airport publishes a free wait lot at the Lefferts Boulevard AirTrain station, 8 minutes from the terminals on a free ride, and a Cell Phone Lot near the JFK Expressway that it places less than 5 minutes from the terminals, with one condition on both, that you must stay in your vehicle at all times. How the paid and free segments divide from a Westchester start is set out in the AirTrain JFK guide for Westchester travelers.

Which JFK lot wins, terminal by terminal

Terminal choice belongs to the airline, so the question worth asking is what the assigned lot costs against the cheapest lot one free stop away. The airport publishes both numbers and never puts them in the same row.

Any terminal, booked 3 hours aheadPrebook rate at the assigned lotAs low as $62 to $80 per dayLong-Term Parking Lot at as low as $39 per day$23 to $41 saved per dayOne free ride and a booking made before leaving home

For a Terminal 4 departure with no booking, the Long-Term Parking Lot wins at $55 for 24 hours against $94 in the Blue Lot, a saving of $39 a day on the maximums the airport publishes. The criterion is the published ceiling, and the cost is the AirTrain ride from that lot with luggage.

For a Terminal 8 departure with no booking, the Red Lot is the walking price at $74 and the Long-Term Parking Lot still wins by $19 a day, checked September 2026. Terminal 8 is where the gap is narrowest, which is the reason the Red Lot is the one terminal lot that survives a straight price comparison.

For any trip booked at least 3 hours ahead, the Long-Term Parking Lot wins outright at as low as $39 per day. Nothing else on the rate table goes below it, and the runner-up, Federal Circle Station Lot at as low as $55, only matches the long-term walk-up maximum the airport publishes.

For a vehicle taller than 6 feet 4 inches, height decides before price does. The Terminal 4 Blue Lot is out on its own limit, and the airport sends taller vehicles to the Long-Term Parking Lot, which it lists at 11 feet 6 inches. The Yellow and Red lots sit between the two at 8 feet 2 inches on Level A.

For meeting an arrival, no paid lot wins. Both free wait areas cost $0 against $6 per half hour in the Blue Lot, on the scale the airport publishes, and it sets no time limit for either one. The trade is that the driver cannot leave the vehicle.

For a single day with two travelers and no car, the published fares beat the lots. On what the Port Authority publishes, AirTrain plus subway costs $11.75 per person one way and the group fare $4.50 for a second rider, which brings a round trip for two to $38.50 against $55 for one day in the Long-Term Parking Lot. What decides it is the drive in, weighed route by route in the comparison of Westchester routes to JFK.

The $35 ADA maximum that undercuts the prebook rates

The airport publishes a separate rate table for drivers with a valid ADA placard or tag, and its 24-hour maximum is $35. That one number sits below every drive-up maximum and below every prebook price at the airport, checked September 2026.

Measured against the ordinary ceilings, the reduction is worth $59 a day at the Terminal 4 Blue Lot, $54 at the Terminal 5 Yellow Lot, $39 at the Terminal 8 Red Lot and $20 at the Long-Term Parking Lot, on the figures the airport publishes. The conditions are where guessing gets expensive. Its ADA table publishes three of them: the reduced rate cannot be combined with a prebooked reservation or with E-ZPass payment, entry has to be through a ticket lane, and it applies only once parking charges pass $35 per day.

Two consequences follow, and both cut against the usual advice. A placard holder who prebooks the Long-Term Parking Lot at as low as $39 per day pays $4 a day above the $35 ceiling the airport publishes, and surrenders the reduction to do it. A short stay that bills under $35 gains nothing at all, because the reduced rate only begins where the charges pass it.

The two edge cases run in opposite directions. Federal Circle Station Lot carries no ADA reduction and takes reservations only, so it is closed to this arithmetic entirely. The Terminal 4 Blue Lot goes the other way, because the airport states that restricted-mobility parkers with a valid placard or tag do not need to prebook there, which is consistent with a $35 ceiling that a booking would cancel.

Where JFK’s own pages contradict each other on parking

Three contradictions sit inside what the Port Authority publishes about parking at JFK, and each one costs money or time to discover at the barrier rather than at home.

The first is how many long-term lots exist. The parking page publishes one Long-Term Parking Lot with one rate, $55 for 24 hours, while the AirTrain station map on the same site connects Lefferts Boulevard to Long-term Parking A and B and Howard Beach to Long-term Parking C, which is three lots and not one. The parking page even disagrees with itself: its FAQ places long-term parking near Lefferts Boulevard Station, and its ADA section places long-term spaces near both the Howard Beach and Lefferts Boulevard stations.

The fare is what hangs on that. Lefferts Boulevard sits inside the free zone the airport describes, and Howard Beach is a paid station where the airport publishes $8.75 per person, so a car that ends up in Long-term Parking C may or may not add $17.50 to a round trip for one traveler. No page answers it, and the parking page publishes a single rate as though the question did not exist.

The second is a garage that is closed and still listed. The lot widget marks Terminal 1 Green and Terminal 7 Orange as closed and routes both to the Terminal 8 Red Lot, while the height FAQ further down that same page still publishes a limit of 9 feet for a Terminal 7 Garage. The page carries a last-modified stamp from September 2026 and the FAQ beneath it was not touched.

The third is the train headway. A card on the AirTrain page publishes trains every 5-15 minutes and the FAQ on that same page publishes every 5-10 minutes, checked September 2026. The difference is trivial for a parked car and not trivial for a driver timing a drop-off from another terminal.

Rules that decide the JFK parking bill before arrival

Seven published rules move the total more than the choice of building does, and all seven are settled before the car reaches the ramp.

  • Prebooking is a 3-hour rule rather than a same-day one. Bookings must be made at least 3 hours ahead, and the airport publishes an entry window of up to 2 hours before the booked time, so an early arrival is covered instead of penalised.
  • Charges accrue in half-hour steps. Each additional half hour, or a fraction of one past a three-hour stay, is billed in full on the scale the airport publishes, so 7 minutes over a boundary costs 30 minutes at $8 in the Terminal 8 Red Lot and $12 in the Terminal 4 Blue Lot.
  • Cash appears nowhere on the payment list. The airport publishes credit and debit cards, E-ZPass and contactless payment, and points drivers to an Express Pay machine to save time at the exit. It does not say cash is refused. It simply omits it.
  • The E-ZPass rule overlaps itself. One line publishes that a fee of $20 or under comes off the E-ZPass balance and the next that a fee of $20 or more goes to the credit card, so at exactly $20 both sentences apply and neither wins.
  • Height rules out the Terminal 4 Blue Lot at 6 feet 4 inches before price enters the decision, and the Terminal 5 Yellow Lot publishes 8 feet 2 inches on Level A against 7 feet 6 inches on Level B and above.
  • ABM Parking requires registration for any stay past 30 days, on +1 (718) 244-4168, in any lot. An unregistered vehicle left longer is treated as abandoned and towed at the owner’s cost.
  • The comparison worth making before the flight is booked at all is the home airport. The enclosed garage at Westchester County Airport publishes $36.47 per calendar day, well under half the Blue Lot’s $94, and the full scale is in the Westchester County Airport parking rates.

What goes wrong at the JFK barrier and the exit

Six failures show up at the gate rather than in the planning, and five of them are visible on the airport’s own pages beforehand.

  • Budgeting from the terminal the airline assigned. Published maximums are $94 at Terminal 4 and $74 at Terminal 8 for the same 24 hours, checked September 2026, and the ride between them is free.
  • Driving to a lot that is shut. Terminal 1 Green and Terminal 7 Orange are marked closed on the lot widget while both terminals keep working, and Terminal 7 still lists eight airlines including Aer Lingus, Condor and Icelandair.
  • Reading a prebook price as a quote. Each one is worded as low as a figure, which is a floor and not a price, and the floors the airport publishes run from $39 to $80 per day.
  • Calling the wrong number after a tow. The parking page publishes +1 (718) 339-8500 in its body and +1 (718) 244-4335 in its FAQ for the same problem, on the same day.
  • Prebooking with an ADA placard. Its ADA table publishes that the reduced rate cannot be combined with a prebooked reservation, so booking ahead trades a $35 ceiling for a $39 floor at the Long-Term Parking Lot.
  • Assuming construction leaves the lots alone. Reduced availability at the Terminal 4 Blue Lot is published for the construction period, alongside a warning of detours and closures across the airport roadway network through 2026, the approach included, which the Cross Bronx traffic guide for JFK and Newark runs covers.

Editorial note: prices, schedules, and policies on this page were checked against the official sources named in the text in September 2026. Common questions about JFK parking rates

Six answers, each anchored to what the Port Authority publishes for JFK in September 2026.

How much is parking at JFK per day?

JFK publishes a 24-hour maximum for each lot, checked September 2026: $55 at the Long-Term Parking Lot, $74 at the Terminal 8 Red Lot, $89 per day at the Terminal 5 Yellow Lot and $94 at the Terminal 4 Blue Lot. Federal Circle Station Lot takes reservations only and posts as low as $55 per day.

Which JFK parking lot is cheapest?

The Long-Term Parking Lot, on every published price. JFK posts $55 for 24 hours on arrival and as low as $39 per day when booked at least 3 hours ahead, against $74 at the cheapest terminal lot. The AirTrain ride from it to the terminals is part of the trade.

Is the AirTrain free between JFK terminals?

Yes, between terminals. Port Authority pages publish that AirTrain rides between the terminals and Federal Circle are free, and that the $8.75 per person fare applies only to trips starting or ending at Jamaica or Howard Beach. Children under five ride free. That free ride is what makes a cheaper terminal lot usable.

Can you park at a different JFK terminal than the one you fly from?

JFK does it itself. Its lot widget lists Terminal 1 Green and Terminal 7 Orange as closed and sends those passengers to the Terminal 8 Red Lot at $74. A Terminal 4 passenger who parks there saves $20 a day against the Blue Lot maximum the airport posts, and rides the AirTrain free.

How much does JFK parking cost with an ADA placard?

JFK publishes a 24-hour maximum of $35 for drivers with a valid ADA placard or tag, checked September 2026. Three conditions come with it, on what the airport publishes: no combining with a prebooked reservation or E-ZPass payment, entry through a ticket lane, and no effect until charges pass $35 per day.

How far in advance do you have to prebook JFK parking?

At least 3 hours, on the rule the airport publishes, and the booked space can be entered up to 2 hours before the booking time. Federal Circle Station Lot takes reservations only under the same 3-hour rule. Drive-up rates apply to anyone arriving without one, at the $55 to $94 the airport posts for 24 hours.

The boarding pass fixes the terminal and the terminal fixes the sticker price, but only for a driver who accepts the assignment. On the maximums the airport publishes in September 2026, a Terminal 4 passenger who parks at Terminal 8 keeps $20 a day, and one who parks in the Long-Term Parking Lot keeps $39, in exchange for a ride the airport gives away.

Parking at JFK is priced by building, and the building is picked by an airline that never asks where the car goes.
