Prudential Center publishes the hour its doors open and nothing about the hour they let out. For anyone leaving 25 Lafayette Street after a Devils game or a concert, the trip home is a decision taken before the encore rather than after it. PATH runs 24 hours a day and charges a flat $3.25, so there is no last train east to miss. The part that changed days before this season is the card that opens the gate.

Newark’s arena prints a door time, no ending, and PATH never closes
Prudential Center publishes one clock for an event day. Arena doors open approximately 60-90 minutes prior to the start of an event, per the A-Z Guide, checked September 2026. No clearing estimate, no staggered release and no closing hour for the building appear anywhere on prucenter.com.
What the arena does publish about going home is a door, a corner and a rule. The door is the Citizens Tower at the northeast corner. The corner is Mulberry Street and Clinton Street, where the rideshare zone sits. The rule is that once you use either one, you are out for the night.
| Decision at the end of a Newark event | Published answer | Issuer that publishes it |
|---|---|---|
| When the building lets out | No closing hour and no clearing estimate, September 2026 | Prudential Center |
| Whether you can step outside and come back | NO RE-ENTRY policy during events, with certain exceptions, such as a medical necessity | Prudential Center A-Z Guide |
| Whether a train is still running | PATH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week | Port Authority of New York and New Jersey |
| What the ride home costs | $3.25 flat one-way on PATH, $6.30 adult one-way on NJ Transit in Zone 2 | Port Authority and NJ Transit |
| How the fare is paid | TAPP Card or a contactless card, phone or wearable, since September 1, 2026 | Port Authority of New York and New Jersey |
| Where a car is allowed to meet you | Designated zone just east of Citizens Tower, corner of Mulberry Street and Clinton Street | Prudential Center rideshare page |

Four doors in the guide, five on the map, and the corner each one leaves you on
The A-Z Guide counts four main entrances: the Citizens Tower on the northeast corner at Mulberry Street and Edison Place, the M&M’s Tower on the southeast corner at Mulberry Street and Lafayette Street, the Lafayette Street Entrance on the south side, and the Hyundai Skybridge, reached from Level 4 of the Hyundai Parking Deck in Yellow Lot 10.
The arena’s entrances map counts five instead, gives each a street number and drops the skybridge: the Lafayette Street Entrance at 24-30 Lafayette Street, VIP West at 18 Lafayette Street, the M&M’s Tower at 25 Lafayette Street, VIP East at 149 Mulberry Street and the Citizens Tower at 60 Edison Place. Two of the five are the VIP doors, and the A-Z Guide places them by side rather than by number: BMW VIP East near the northeast corner on Mulberry Street, VIP West on the west side on Devils Way.
Only one of the five carries a published instruction for going out. To exit Prudential Center towards Newark Penn Station, guests are told to use the Citizens Tower by heading to the northeast corner near Sections 20-22, 130-133 or 231-233. For buses toward Newark Broad Street Station the instruction changes to Edison Place or Lafayette Street and half a block west to Broad Street, checked September 2026.
The one sentence in the guide that asks a guest to think about exits at all is filed under emergencies: upon arrival, all guests should take a moment to find the exits nearest to their seats. Arrival is also where the fares and the platforms live, and those are set out in the companion guide to reaching Prudential Center from Newark Penn Station.
Newark bans re-entry and then writes down the one way around it
Prudential Center has a NO RE-ENTRY policy during events, with certain exceptions, such as a medical necessity. The exception comes with a procedure. In these cases, the guest must coordinate with a Guest Services Supervisor before exiting the arena, and the guide tells guests to ask the nearest Guest Services or Security representative to reach that supervisor.
That procedure is what separates Newark from the arenas it competes with for the same touring acts. Barclays Center publishes a re-entry ban with no exception attached. UBS Arena widens its own ban to cover guests who have been ejected. Yankee Stadium publishes an emergency exception. Only Newark names a non-emergency reason and a member of staff who has to sign off on it, checked September 2026. The Brooklyn version of the same problem is worked through in the guide to leaving Barclays Center after an event.
Smokers have no version of that conversation available. The arena is smoke and tobacco-free including electronic cigarettes, and the ban covers all indoor and outdoor areas within 25 feet from all entrances and exits, plus the balconies and Championship Plaza. Stepping past that 25 foot line and back is exactly the movement the re-entry rule forbids.
PATH charges $3.25 all night and stopped taking the card that got you there
The Port Authority publishes a single number for the ride out of Newark. The full one-way fare is $3.25, reduced to $1.60 for riders aged 65 and over and for riders with qualifying disabilities, and free for children aged 5 and under. PATH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The payment method is the part that moved. MetroCard and SmartLink acceptance ended on August 31, 2026, and as of September 1, 2026 all SmartLink Cards and MetroCards are no longer accepted at PATH. Fares are paid with a TAPP Card or by tapping a contactless card, phone or wearable at the gate. Anyone who rode into Newark on a MetroCard earlier in the year cannot ride out on one now.
NJ Transit prices the same building differently and runs it differently. Penn Station Newark and Newark Broad Street sit in Zone 2 from New York Penn Station at $6.30 for an adult one-way under the fares effective July 1, 2026, and the commuter lines publish departures as timetables, line by line, rather than as an all-night rule. The full zone table sits in the breakdown of NJ Transit and PATH fares into Newark.
Amtrak is the gap. The A-Z Guide names it among the five services that reach Newark Penn Station, and amtrak.com reset the connection on every automated request tried in September 2026, so no Amtrak departure, fare or platform is quoted here. The absence is written here rather than filled from a third party.
Every way out of 25 Lafayette Street, what it costs and who owns the clock
Nine ways out of the building are named across prucenter.com, njtransit.com and the Port Authority’s PATH pages. Exactly one of the nine carries a clock stated as a rule rather than as a timetable. One carries a promotional code instead of a fare, and one exists only as an insurance benefit.
| Way out of Prudential Center | Where the walk starts | Published cost | Published clock | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PATH at Newark Station, inside Newark Penn Station | Citizens Tower, then two blocks east | $3.25 flat one-way, $1.60 reduced, paid by TAPP or contactless, per the Port Authority | Operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week | Lower Manhattan and Jersey City after midnight |
| NJ Transit rail from Newark Penn Station | Citizens Tower, then two blocks east | $6.30 adult one-way to New York Penn Station in Zone 2, per NJ Transit | No last departure published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | A one-seat ride into Midtown Manhattan |
| NJ Transit rail from Newark Broad Street Station | Edison Place or Lafayette Street, then half a block west | The same Zone 2 fare of $6.30 to New York Penn Station, per NJ Transit | No last departure published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | Morris and Essex and Montclair-Boonton riders |
| Newark Light Rail | Citizens Tower, then two blocks east | $1.90 one-way, or $0.85 between the underground stops, per NJ Transit | Published as a timetable rather than as an all-night rule | The hop to Newark Broad Street Station |
| Lyft from the designated zone | Just east of Citizens Tower, at Mulberry Street and Clinton Street | No fare published by the arena; code PRUCENTER is posted for a first ride free up to $20 | No pick-up window published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | Groups, and any address without rail |
| Any other rideshare app | No zone named on prucenter.com | No fare and no prohibition published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | No pick-up window published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | Riders willing to pick their own corner |
| Taxi | No stand and no dispatch named in the A-Z Guide | The only taxi provision on the site is a Plymouth Rock Assurance reimbursement benefit, with no cap published | No clock published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | Holders of that Plymouth Rock endorsement |
| A car in one of the associated decks | Lafayette Street, Green Street or Mulberry Street | No price published by Prudential Center for any lot, September 2026 | No closing time published for any lot, September 2026 | Four people leaving Newark in one vehicle |
| Accessible drop-off and pick-up | Corner of Mulberry Street and Lafayette Street, with ramps to the M&M’s Tower | No fee published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | No window published by Prudential Center, September 2026 | Guests using a van or a paratransit vehicle |
Lyft is an official partner of Prudential Center, and the designated pickup and drop-off area sits just east of the Citizens Tower. The wayfinding sentence on that page is written for the arrival: ask your driver to follow in-app navigation and the signs to the drop-off area on the corner of Mulberry Street and Clinton Street. Nothing equivalent is written for the way out, and Uber is not named on the page at all.
Which way home wins from Newark, by where the night ends
Two adults heading for Lower Manhattan pay $6.50 between them on PATH, at the flat $3.25 the Port Authority publishes. The same pair riding NJ Transit to New York Penn Station pays $12.60, which is also what NJ Transit charges one adult for a Zone 2 round trip. Across a round trip for two, the gap is $13.00 against $25.20 on fares alone.
For Lower Manhattan and Jersey City, PATH wins outright. The criterion is not the $12.20 saved but the 24-hour service, because a crowd released at an hour nobody published cannot miss a train that always runs. For Midtown Manhattan, NJ Transit wins on the one-seat ride at $6.30, with the caveat that its last departure is a timetable question and has to be checked before the show rather than after it.
For Hoboken the answer splits, and the fare and the clock point opposite ways. NJ Transit charges $4.20 from Hoboken to Penn Station Newark with no change; PATH charges $3.25 and imposes a transfer at Journal Square. The fare favors PATH by $0.95 and the simpler ride favors NJ Transit, so the tiebreaker is the hour: after the last commuter departure, only one of the two is still moving.
For anyone who arrived on the Morris and Essex or Montclair-Boonton lines, the Newark Light Rail wins over the bus at $1.90, or $0.85 between the underground stops, per NJ Transit. For four people going to an address without rail, the Lyft zone wins by default: it is the single pick-up point Prudential Center names, and the arena posts code PRUCENTER for a first ride free up to $20.
Drivers are the one group whose arithmetic cannot be finished from anything the venue prints. Prudential Center calls itself one of the most easily accessible arenas in the country with over 3,500 parking spaces within 2 blocks, and publishes no price for any of them, which is the whole subject of the guide to Prudential Center parking and its one published rate.
Details Prudential Center publishes that only matter on the way out
- Storage lockers cost $8 to $10 and sit outside the M&M’s Tower and Lafayette Street entrances, and stored items must be collected at the end of the event. The train door is the Citizens Tower, on the other corner of the building, so a bag left in a locker adds a lap. The measurements behind that locker are in the Prudential Center bag rules and the missing third dimension.
- Strollers that do not fit under a seat are checked at the Guest Services Centers near Sections 9 and 114, which is also where they have to be picked up before anyone walks east.
- Lost and Found sits at the same Guest Services Center outside Sections 9 and 114. Items are held for two weeks and then donated to local charities, per the A-Z Guide, so the deadline for a phone left under a seat is measured in days, not months.
- Guest Services answers on 973-757-6000 and at [email protected], and the in-arena texting service takes messages on 507.PC.GUEST, which dials as 507.724.8378.
- The Ticketmaster Box Office runs Monday to Friday, 11am to 5pm, and opens at 11am on a weekend event day. An evening event ends after it has closed, so a ticketing problem discovered at the buzzer waits until the next business morning.
- Two ATMs stand inside the building, one at the RWJBarnabas Hockey House and one on the Main Concourse outside Section 6. They are the last cash available before the crowd reaches a street where the arena publishes no taxi stand.
- Will Call windows sit at the Ticketmaster Box Office, reached through the entrance on Edison Place next to the Citizens Tower, and open 3 hours prior to show time for most events. That is the same Edison Place frontage the guide uses for the walk to Broad Street.
What breaks a plan for getting out of downtown Newark
- Carrying a MetroCard to the PATH turnstile. Acceptance ended on August 31, 2026, and only TAPP or a contactless card, phone or wearable opens the gate now, per the Port Authority.
- Stepping outside for air or a cigarette. No re-entry applies during events, the smoking ban reaches 25 feet from every entrance and exit, and the medical exception has to be arranged with a Guest Services Supervisor before you walk out, not after.
- Waiting for an announced finish. The only event-day clock on prucenter.com runs the other way, at 60-90 minutes before the start, checked September 2026.
- Treating an NJ Transit return like a PATH return. PATH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; the commuter lines stop when their timetables say so, and Prudential Center publishes neither hour.
- Boarding at Newark Broad Street on the assumption that it is Newark Penn Station. The two are separate stations on separate lines, joined by a $1.90 light rail ride, per NJ Transit.
- Ordering a car to whichever door the crowd used. The single designated zone is east of the Citizens Tower at Mulberry Street and Clinton Street, and no alternative pick-up point appears on prucenter.com, September 2026.
- Assuming a taxi rank outside the doors. The word taxi does not appear in the A-Z Guide, and the only taxi provision published on the site is an insurance reimbursement benefit on the rideshare page.
Editorial note: prices, schedules, and policies on this page were checked against the official sources named in the text in September 2026. Venues, airports, and transit agencies change them without notice; confirm with the operator before you travel. Westchester Ride does not sell tickets or parking and does not accept payment to rank any operator.
No closing hour appears on prucenter.com. Only a beginning is published: arena doors open approximately 60-90 minutes prior to the start of an event, per the A-Z Guide, and no clearing estimate, staggered release or finishing time appears for any event, checked September 2026.
Not in the ordinary case. The A-Z Guide sets a NO RE-ENTRY policy during events, with certain exceptions, such as a medical necessity, and in those cases the guest must coordinate with a Guest Services Supervisor before exiting the arena, checked September 2026.
There is no last train to miss. PATH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the Port Authority charges a flat one-way fare of $3.25, reduced to $1.60. NJ Transit rail runs to a published timetable instead, line by line.
Lyft is an official partner of Prudential Center, and the designated pickup and drop-off area sits just east of the Citizens Tower, on the corner of Mulberry Street and Clinton Street. No Uber zone and no prohibition on other apps appear on prucenter.com, checked September 2026.
MetroCard and SmartLink acceptance ended on August 31, 2026, and as of September 1, 2026 neither card is accepted at PATH. Fares are paid with a TAPP Card or by tapping a contactless card, phone or wearable at the gate, per the Port Authority.
Storage lockers priced at $8 to $10 stand outside the Lafayette Street entrance and the southeast corner tower, and stored items must be collected at the end of the event. Strollers are checked at the Guest Services Centers near Sections 9 and 114, per the A-Z Guide.
The last decision of a Newark night is not which train to catch but whether the gate will take what you are holding. PATH keeps running either way, and the door behind you does not reopen.
