The rail trip from Westchester to UBS Arena is two railroads long and ends at Elmont-UBS Arena Station, a Zone 4 stop 10 to 15 minutes from the doors. What goes unsettled is where the second railroad begins, and the venue’s own pages give two different answers. For a reader coming from the north, that unsettled detail is the entire trip.

Two Grand Centrals, and only one of them sends trains to Elmont
Metro-North arrives at Grand Central Terminal. Long Island Rail Road trains to Elmont-UBS Arena Station leave from Grand Central Madison, a separate station beneath it. UBS Arena names Grand Central Madison on one page and Grand Central Terminal on another, and only the first is where the connecting train departs.
That distinction costs a Westchester passenger walking time and nothing else, but it is the kind of detail that decides whether a train is caught. The arena publishes both names, gives two different journey lengths for the same ride, and leaves the connection between the two railroads undescribed.
| What the arena publishes | The published wording | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Station | Elmont-UBS Arena Station, Zone 4 | Plan your trip |
| From Grand Central Madison | Direct service, approximately 30 minutes | Plan your trip |
| From Grand Central Terminal | Direct train connections, about 25 minutes | FAQs |
| From Penn Station | About 30 minutes on both pages | Plan your trip and FAQs |
| Station to doors | Short walk of 10 to 15 minutes, or a free shuttle | Plan your trip |
| Direction of service | Two-way, westbound and eastbound, on event days | Sustainability page |
| New York subway | Not mentioned on any page, because no line reaches Elmont | Absent |
| Bus | Three lines: MTA Q82, MTA Q2 and NICE Bus N6 | Plan your trip |
Where the arena’s own pages disagree about the same 30 minutes
Plan your trip states that direct service from Grand Central Madison to Elmont-UBS Arena Station is available, and that a rider can reach the arena from Grand Central and Penn Station in approximately 30 minutes. The FAQ page splits that figure: direct train connections to Grand Central Terminal in about 25 minutes and Penn Station in about 30, checked September 2026.
Five minutes is trivial. The station name is not. Grand Central Madison opened as the Long Island Rail Road terminal below Grand Central Terminal, and the two are reached by different concourses. A Metro-North passenger from Westchester steps off at the Terminal and has to descend to Madison to board anything heading for Elmont. Neither arena page mentions that transfer, and the page that names the right station is not the page most searchers reach.
The same trip from the north is described in our guide to reaching Madison Square Garden from Westchester, where the arena publishes a route with two transfers and no headline for Metro-North at all. Getting from a Westchester platform to the right city terminal in the first place is covered in our guide to Metro-North stations across the county.
What UBS Arena publishes about the station at its own address
Elmont-UBS Arena Station is the name the venue uses, priced as Zone 4 and located north of campus, a short walk of 10 to 15 minutes to the building or reachable by a free shuttle. Its sustainability page adds that the station provides two-way service, westbound and eastbound, for event attendees, according to UBS Arena, which is the detail that makes a return trip possible at all.
Zone 4 is citable because the arena publishes it. The fare attached to that zone is not: the Metropolitan Transportation Authority publishes Long Island Rail Road fares and its site returns an access error to every automated route tried in September 2026, and the arena publishes no fare of its own. Nor does it publish a timetable, a frequency or a last train. It refers riders to TrainTime, and this page does the same rather than print a number it cannot source.
The free shuttle has a placement problem rather than a data problem. Plan your trip says shuttles run between UBS Arena, Emerald Parking and Elmont-UBS Arena Station. The parking page, which is the page a driver reads, does not mention any general shuttle. Frequency, operating hours and the last departure are unpublished.
The drive from the north crosses a tolled bridge this page will not price
A driver from Westchester reaches Elmont across either the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge or the Throgs Neck Bridge, both operated and tolled by MTA Bridges and Tunnels. The toll itself is not published here, and the reason is worth stating plainly: the issuer’s site returns an access error to every route tried in September 2026, and the figure this project holds for those crossings dates from April 2025 and has never been re-verified.
A stale toll is worse than no toll, because a reader budgets from it. Check the current rate on the MTA Bridges and Tunnels page before leaving, the same way this site handles Metro-North fares it cannot read. What can be said without a figure is the shape of the drive: two tolled crossings, no free alternative from the north that does not add distance through the Bronx, and a single approach road on the arena side.
Driving times are absent for the same reason. No issuer publishes a drive time between Westchester and Elmont, so none appears here. The route structure is publishable and the clock is not.
What the car costs once it reaches Elmont
Five lots carry names at UBS Arena and none carries a published base price, because parking is sold through a ticketing platform that sets the rate per event.
Two dollar figures do exist and neither is a tariff. A concert surcharge of $5 to $10 applies when parking is bought at the lots instead of in advance, per the venue’s own parking page. And according to the New York Islanders, the arena’s official tenant, attendees who park in the Belmont Park Garage without a prepaid pass are charged $125 upon exit.
That $125 does not appear on the arena’s own parking page, which is the asymmetry worth knowing before a first visit. Access is by lot rather than by campus: Emerald is reached from Cross Island Parkway Exit 26D, Belmont Park Garage from Exit 26A, and Silver, Diamond and Ruby from Exit 26B, with no interior connection between them. Take the wrong exit and the fix is a loop on the parkway. The full set of lots, the three different opening rules and the hour the arena never prints are set out in our UBS Arena parking guide.
One more line from the lease is unusual enough to repeat: the arena states that its lease with Empire State Development prohibits tailgating, which is a published reason rather than a house rule. The venue is also cashless throughout, including for parking.
Seven published details for a trip that starts north of the city
- The station sits north of campus and the arena gives the walk as 10 to 15 minutes, with a free shuttle as the alternative. Shuttle frequency and last departure are unpublished.
- Three bus lines reach the arena, the MTA Q82, the MTA Q2 and the NICE Bus N6. Frequencies, fares and exact stops are unpublished.
- Rideshare has one zone, on the north side, and the arena gives it two descriptions. The parking page says it is accessed via Cross Island Parkway Exit 26D only; plan your trip adds the street, Exit 26D and Green Road. Green Road is the name a driver sees.
- No taxi stand, dispatch or phone number is published anywhere on the arena site. In a venue with no subway and one approach road, that absence carries more weight than it would in Brooklyn.
- Group buses and limousines require email coordination no less than 72 hours before an event, entering by Gate 5 Road and dropping passengers in the Silver C lot.
- The five hotels the arena lists are all near JFK and Queens rather than in Elmont or Nassau, the closest at 6.8 miles and the farthest at 17.5 miles. Two advertise a special arena rate and none is published as offering a shuttle.
- A Lyft promotion appears as a code rather than a partnership: use code UBSARENA for 50% off your first 2 rides, up to $10 per ride. Unlike Barclays Center, no entrance or zone at UBS Arena carries a brand name.
Errors that turn an Elmont night into a two-railroad problem
- Booking a Metro-North ticket to Grand Central and expecting to board there for Elmont. Long Island Rail Road service leaves from Grand Central Madison, a separate station below the Terminal, and the arena names both without explaining the difference.
- Trusting the 25 minute figure from the FAQ page over the 30 minute figure from plan your trip. Both are official, they attach to differently named stations, and neither includes the transfer between railroads.
- Planning to use the New York subway. No line reaches Elmont and the arena never mentions the subway on any page.
- Budgeting a bridge toll from an old number. Neither the Bronx-Whitestone nor the Throgs Neck toll is published on this page for that reason, and the figure that circulates in older guides predates 2026.
- Driving to the Belmont Park Garage without a prepaid pass. The tenant publishes a $125 charge on exit and the arena’s parking page does not mention it.
- Taking Exit 26D for a Silver, Diamond or Ruby pass. Those three are reached from Exit 26B, and the lots have no interior connection.
- Counting on a shuttle back to the station after the event. Shuttles are published on plan your trip, absent from the parking page, and their last departure is unpublished.
Editorial note: prices, schedules, and policies on this page were checked against the official sources named in the text in September 2026. Venues, airports, and transit agencies change them without notice; confirm with the operator before you travel. Westchester Ride does not sell tickets or parking and does not accept payment to rank any operator.
Metro-North into Grand Central Terminal, then a Long Island Rail Road train from Grand Central Madison to Elmont-UBS Arena Station, which UBS Arena prices as Zone 4 and describes as a 10 to 15 minute walk from its doors, checked September 2026. The two Grand Central stations are separate.
Grand Central Madison, the Long Island Rail Road terminal below Grand Central Terminal. UBS Arena names Grand Central Madison on its plan your trip page and Grand Central Terminal in its FAQs, checked September 2026, and only the first is where a train toward Elmont actually departs.
The arena publishes two answers. Plan your trip gives approximately 30 minutes from Grand Central and Penn Station; the FAQs give about 25 minutes from Grand Central Terminal and about 30 from Penn Station, checked September 2026. Neither figure includes the transfer between the two railroads.
No. No subway line reaches Elmont, and UBS Arena does not mention the subway on any page checked in September 2026. The published rail option is the Long Island Rail Road to Elmont-UBS Arena Station, with three bus lines and a single rideshare zone as the alternatives.
No base rate is published for any of the five lots, which are sold per event through a ticketing platform. The arena publishes a $5 to $10 concert surcharge for buying at the lots, and the New York Islanders publish a $125 charge for exiting the Belmont Park Garage without a prepaid pass.
The exit changes with the lot, and the lots do not connect inside. Emerald is reached from Exit 26D, the Belmont Park Garage from Exit 26A, and Silver, Diamond and Ruby from Exit 26B, checked September 2026. The rideshare zone uses Exit 26D and Green Road.
Every other venue this site covers rewards the train because the platform is at the door. Elmont rewards it too, and then hides the hardest step of the journey in the gap between two of its own pages. A rider from Westchester who knows which Grand Central to walk to has already solved the part the arena never wrote down.
